چکیده

In this project, we have attempted to develop a new technique utilizing Boron-doped diamond (BDD) films to electrochemically detect mercury dissolved in solution via the initial deposition of metallic mercury, followed by anodic linear sweep voltammetry in the range from 1010 M to 10 M. Cyclic voltammetry (CV) and differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) techniques were employed. The extremely low background current for BDD electrodes compared to glassy carbon (GC) provides a strong advantage in trace metal detection. CV peak currents showed good linearity in the micromolar range. A detection level of 6.8 x 10 M was achieved with DPV in 0.1 M KNO3 (pH = 1) for a deposition time of 20 minutes. Reproducible stripping peaks were obtained, even for the low concentration range. A comparison with GC shows that BDD is superior. Linear behavior was also obtained in the mercury concentration range from 10 M to 10 M.

Quantification of Mercury in Flue Gas Emission Using Boron-Doped Diamond Electrochemistry

The detection of toxic trace metals in the environment is a highly important yet challenging analytical problem. Because of the growing awareness of environmental mercury pollution and its high toxicity, it is becoming more urgent to develop highly sensitive techniques for the detection of Hg (1). Spectroscopic techniques such as coldvapor atomic fluorescence spectrometry (CV-AFS),(2) cold-vapo...

Current Image Tunneling Spectroscopy of Boron and Nitrogen Co-doped Diamond Films

Effect of boron and nitrogen co-doping on the electron field emission properties of the diamond films was examined using current image tunneling spectroscopy in atomic force microscopy (CITS, AFM). Tunneling current-voltage (It-V) characteristics measured by AFM indicate that incorporation of boron and nitrogen species induced the presence of impurity state. Such a characteristic is closely rel...

Current image tunneling spectroscopy of boron-doped nanodiamonds

The electron field emission properties of the nanodiamond films were examined using scanning tunneling microscopic sSTMd technique. Current image tunneling spectroscopic measurements reveal the direct dependence of electron tunneling/field emission behavior of the films on the proportion of grain boundaries present. Local tunneling current-voltage sIt–Vd measurements show that incorporation of ...

Emission and Leaching Potential of Mercury from Flue Gas Desulfurization (FGD) Byproducts Amended Soil

The release of mercury (Hg) into atmosphere, infiltration, and uptake by plants from flue gas desulfurization (FGD) material-amended soils was studied. The project was carried out in three phases: (1) laboratory study, (2) field study, and (3) life cycle calculation. In the laboratory study, factors controlling the release of Hg from FGD by-product amended soil were investigated under well-cont...

Chemical analysis of impurity boron atoms in diamond using soft X-ray emission spectroscopy.

To analyze the local structure and/or chemical states of boron atoms in boron-doped diamond, which can be synthesized by the microwave plasma-assisted chemical vapor deposition method (CVD-B-diamond) and the temperature gradient method at high pressure and high temperature (HPT-B-diamond), we measured the soft X-ray emission spectra in the CK and BK regions of B-diamonds using synchrotron radia...
